The second thing you want to inspect are the chain and sprocket that drive the blade. Checking this is essential because it ensures that the correct amount of tension is on the chain. You stand a greater chance of the chain coming off if it is not set correctly. In addition, it also will not go as well through wood as you would expect it to. 

Prior to startup you want to carefully examine the motor. See if there are screws or fasteners loose. You should also look for debris or dust settling in places where it should not be. This buildup can get into the motor and cause it to stop functioning as if there were a broken part or a seized motor.
